FAQ

Soccer Leagues In NYC

League FAQ page. Group Stage offers soccer leagues in New York City. We host competitive leagues in a fun and sporting environment. Our group came about from a love of the game, that’s why we coach and play in our own leagues. Register as a team or individual and level up your game this season.

How many players on each team?

We recommend 9v9 teams have a roster of 11-13 players; 7v7 teams, 9-12 players and 5v5 teams, 7-9 players. This way teams have a pool of players that can cover substitutions, and those matches when people are away.

How long are games?

Generally speaking, the smaller sided matches (5v5 & 7v7) are 48-55 minutes, with half time and a change of ends. The 9v9 matches are 55-60 minutes. All games are refereed by a qualified referee.

What If I have a few friends that want to play but not enough for a full team?

That’s fine. Everyone should sign up and note in the comments section that they would like to be teamed together. We will do our best to accommodate requests and complete the team.

Can I join as an individual “Free-Agent”?

Yes. Once you have registered as a “Free Agent,” we’ll contact you for details on playing experience and.will assign you to a great new team. If for any reason we can’t place you on a team, a full refund is offered.

What’s the quality and level Of play?

Players with a range of experience are welcome, we aim keep things fun and not too cut throat. Leagues are varied levels D1- 3. All players are expected to exhibit a good attitude and sportspersonship.

What do we get If we win?

The rarefied honor and accompanying glory of being a Group Stage champion should be enough to satisfy you, but we know people enjoy a little dazzle. Therefore a team cup and individual trophies are awarded as part of the package. The runners-up also get lesser bling for their almost greatness.

Do you provide uniforms or shirts?

Yes, we provide the jerseys. When teams register they’ll be offered a choice of color.

Do games ever get canceled?

Sure. If the weather is really bad we’ll postpone the game. If there is ever a question about the weather we notify captains with updates. In general we try to play rain or shine. For example, despite the record snowfall we experienced in the ’10/’11 winter season we postponed only one game week. Postponements are always rescheduled – we don’t short change teams with a reduced number of games.
