We’ve Moved!

Posted May 6th, 2012 by groupstage

The Blog has moved. It was time to switch things up, bring in the movers and give the blog new digs. There were reasons for the move and this entertaining piece from the wayward sons at Run of Play, just about sums things up – in a fantastical apocalyptic kind of way.

“The armies came by night, materializing beneath our walls as if born from the darkness itself. Their catapults flung great orbs of fire. Their battering rams smashed against our gates. Their wizards did things that completely freaked us out…”

If you’ve followed us so far we thank you. You can continue to follow the ramblings and goings on at our new tumbling domain here.

    Spiel Magazine

Posted April 12th, 2012 by groupstage

Spiel is a new football magazine. It joins the likes of Green Soccer Journal in exploring the game’s new cultural hegemony. It’s another looker of a publication and anything that asks, “How Hungarian was Florian Albert” deserves a closer look.

        France 2012 EURO Away Kit

Posted February 25th, 2012 by groupstage

“The new away shirt has a classic white body with seven thin, obsidian blue stripes on the cuff of each sleeve to represent the iconic French design of the Marinière. The shirt’s constructed collar also echoes French style with a long placket and a bonded tape around the edge of the collars. The fabric of the new kit’s shorts is made with 100% recycled polyester, while the fabric of the shirts is made with at least 96% recycled polyester.  Each kit is made using an average of 13 recycled plastic bottles”.

The shirt also carries the message “Nos differences nous unissent” (“Our differences unite us”). France boss Blanc will be hoping this philosophy can inspire Les Bleus this time around to the verve of Euro’s past – we’re hoping that’s after June 11th when they play England.

          FC Wurzburg

Posted February 22nd, 2012 by groupstage

Continuing our fix of all things German, here’s some Fett gear from FC Wurzburg – a fictitious football team based in Germany.

“The concept was to try to make an identity based off a culture, and design style that is completely foreign to me. The logo was designed to resemble the Bavarian Mountains with a contemporary abstract assembly of triangles, that form the mountain range while integrating a cool color pallet of greens, and blues. The Wurzburg tagline is “United we are 11″, this grants a form of unity and harmony amongst the players for Wurzburg, and fans”.

In the build up to their centenary celebrations, the Canadian Soccer Association has unveiled new home and away kits by Umbro. They’ll be worn by all of Canada’s national sides, including the Women’s team who compete at this years London Olympics, and the men’s team that are a step closer to sticking a leaf on it at Rio 2014, after progressing to the next phase of qualification.

We’ve performed some bloggy analysis and discovered that our readership is about 89% German and not of German descent, but actual German. We chalk it up to our hyper-intellectualism and sex positiveness. But, it could also have something to do with the photo shoot we did with our main man Dirk Anschutz, maybe. In any case, we’ll run with it and offer to you, freunds, our  first Bundesliga post.

I’m. following. the. flow. chart. and. my. new favorite team IS……………………Boruussia Monchengladbach. Somehow I’m not surprised. Incidentally, St. Pauli would have shanked this chart up.
