FAQ

Soccer Leagues in NYC

Register as a team, or as an individual and level up your game this season.

At Group Stage, our passion for soccer runs deep. More than just a game, it’s the universal language that brings our community together. Every match we organize comes from our genuine love for the sport—the joy of a perfect pass, the thrill of competition, and those unforgettable moments on the pitch.

How many players on each team?

We recommend team roster sizes as follows; 9v9 (12-13 players), 7v7 (10-12 players), and 5v5 (7-9 players).

This way teams have a pool of players that can cover substitutions, and matches when people are away, but not so many as to interrupt game flow, or unfairly skew the competitiveness of teams.

How long are games?

Generally speaking, the smaller sided matches are 50-55 minutes, with half time and a change of ends. Matches are officiated by qualified referees.

What If I have a few friends but not enough for a full team?

That’s fine. Everyone should sign up and note in the comments section that they would like to be teamed together. We will do our best to accommodate requests and complete the team.

Can I join as an individual "Free-Agent"?

Yes.

Register as an individual and note in the comments section your experience/position, and we’ll assign you to a great new team. If for any reason we’re unable to place you on a team, a full refund is offered.

What’s the quality and level of play?

Players with a range of experience are welcome. League levels vary from 1 to 3. league 2 is an intermediate level, whilst league 1 is a more competitive advanced level.

All players are expected to exhibit a good attitude and sportspersonship. We aim to keep things fun and not too cut throat.

What do we get If we win?

The rarefied honor and accompanying glory of being a Group Stage Champion should be enough to satisfy you, but we know people enjoy a little dazzle. Therefore a team cup and individual trophies are awarded as part of the package. The runners-up also get lesser bling for their almost greatness.

Do you provide uniforms or shirts?

Yes, we provide the jerseys. Teams are assigned a color depending on availability. Many teams have created their own custom club jerseys, so there’s always that option.

Do games ever get canceled?

In general we play rain or shine. If weather conditions are poor, games are postponed. Any weather postponements are rescheduled – we don’t short change teams with a reduced number of games.

If there is ever a question about the weather, we’ll message team captains & co-captains directly.

Pick Up Games

We organize pickup soccer year round, for players looking to refine developed skills – improve first touch, one-two passing and overall team play. Games provide an active workout in a friendly environment.

Pickup games are regular organized events that do not require a season long commitment. The same rules apply, we appreciate positive game vibes and on field attitude.
